Death Valley, 2000
Death Valley is my favorite location for photography. The variety found there, from mountains to salt flats to sand dunes, is staggering, and yet it all possesses the same stark, harsh beauty, giving it a sort of unity not often found in the contrasts of other locations. These photos were taken at a workshop given there by Craig Fucile and Jan Pieterzak, sponsored by UCSC. I have visited there several other times, and each time is rewarding in new and different ways.
The photos in the last section, Ruins, were taken at a ghost town near Death Valley called Rhyolite.
